On Friday 25th of January the School was honoured by a visit from Prince Seeiso Bareng Seeiso, High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Lesotho .
His presence in the school and the official visit was to express his thanks to the staff and Pupils of the school for their efforts in raising money for the education of children in Lesotho , particularly the village of Malealea which has been hard hit by HIV and AIDS. In fact the average life expectancy for adult males has fallen from 60 years to 34 years.
There are many orphans in Lesotho and these are the children that the Pupils and Staff of Riddings school are supporting.
We are paying for their secondary education since only primary education is free and this is at a cost of £113 per anum.
We decided that we would buy the teaching in blocks of 5 years so that a scholarship was guaranteed for each child we sponsored.
Here is a photographic record of the highlights of the visit.

Below is an open letter to the people of Scunthorpe area.
It is with genuine sincerity that I write on behalf of the Malealea project leaders and myself to express our gratitude for the support given by the residents of Scunthorpe and the surrounding areas to the two ‘Look All Around You' concerts at the Plowright Theatre in January this year. The ages of the patrons spanned both the generations and the tastes allowing them to enjoy two completely different facets of the Arts. The first concert which took place on the25th January demonstrated the exceptional abilities of young people in the disciplines of music, speech and dance. They were giving freely of their time and talents which were exhibited in the presence of HRH Prince Seeisso B Seeisso of Lesotho . For our second concert on the 26th January the entertainment was provided by the East Yorkshire Motor Services Brass Band. Both concerts were very well received and for the second year running I am delighted to announce that we are once again able to pay for 52 children to receive a secondary education in Malealea. These children who are all orphans of the terrible disease Aids would otherwise have no means in which continue to receive any form of education beyond primary school. The cost of secondary education in Malealea is £113 per year per child and all monies raised goes at the concerts goes directly to the ‘Malealea Trust', every single penny is used to pay directly for their education. Although we never get to know the names of these children it is gratifying to think that due to our combined efforts, these orphans have a chance to succeed and to go forward to improve their lives.
